From June 22nd, at the Sarmizegetusa Regia site, an archaeological research campaign is carried out within the project "CAPITAL OF DACIA LIVING MUSEUM OF EUROPEAN CULTURAL HERITAGE". The excavations are carried out in several points of the fortification in order to provide information and clarifications on the ancient constructive elements and the state of preservation of the monument. In the first stage, an area was drawn at the Eastern Gate, where the works from 1980 substantially changed the appearance of the monument. A series of arguments drawn from the excavations of the 19th and 20th centuries indicate a different configuration of the gate than the one currently materialized in the field, so that it is necessary to (re)investigate the area in order to obtain additional data to propose optimal solutions for restoration. A series of sections and surfaces are to be opened on several segments of the wall, as well as in the area of the western and southern gates.

The project of restoration and revitalization of the archaeological site Sarmizegetusa Regia is financed by EEA Grants 2014-2021 within Program RO-Cultura . The grant for this project is 1.897.384,23 euro, plus the contribution of Hunedoara County Council in the amount of 848.865,92 euro. The total duration of the project is 42 months.
