Opinions of student participants in the Heritage Protectors Training Workshops
The future of the site is in good hands<\/em>

Between 12 and 13 September 2023, the Mihai Eminescu Trust Foundation and the Local Action\nResource Center Association (CRAL) organized the third training seminar "Protectors of the\nEuropean Archaeological Cultural Heritage\u00a0\u2013Sarmizegetusa".

15 participants were present at the workshop and the target group, in the case of this seminar,\nwas represented by the students from the "Aurel Vlaicu" Theoretical High School in the\nmunicipality of Or\u0103\u0219tie, the closest urban center to the Dacian fortresses. We have considered\nthis target group precisely to help students discover information related to the importance of the\nUNESCO site the Dacian Fortresses in the Or\u0103\u0219tie Mountains, directly from the specialists. We\nalso wanted to encourage young people to discover the value of the area so that, after finishing\ntheir studies, they would return home and open their businesses here. Youth can also be a very\ngood resource for providing guides at the Sarmizegetusa Regia site, especially during the\nsummer holidays. The seminar participants were selected by the CRAL Association following\nconsultations with the Mihai Eminescu Trust Foundation, the Hunedoara County Council, the\nGeneral Directorate of Monuments Administration and Tourist Promotion of Hunedoara County\n(DGAMPT) \u2013 the institution that administers the Dacian fortresses in the Or\u0103\u0219tie Mountains on\nthe territory of the Hunedoara County, and the "Aurel Vlaicu Or\u0103stie" Theoretical High School.  

The seminar was conducted by the consultant involved in the project, the architect and professor\nLeoncio Orellana Vivanco, with almost 15 years of work experience in Romania, in heritage projects, community development, and institutional capacity building. Furthermore, we also had the pleasure of having Mrs. Caroline Fernolend, president of the Mihai Eminescu Trust Foundation and expert in the revitalization of local communities in Romania by valuing the\nnatural and cultural heritage, present at the seminar.

Participan\u021bii au fost invita\u021bi s\u0103 se prezinte \u0219i s\u0103 precizeze care este leg\u0103tura lor cu situl Sarmizegetusa Regia. Prof. Leo Orellana a prezentat suportul de curs folosind metoda interactiv\u0103 Sirchal, iar doamna Caroline Ferholen le-a vorbit participan\u021bilor despre experien\u021ba avut\u0103 \u0219i pa\u0219ii de urmat pentru \u00eenscrierea unui obiectiv pe lista patrimoniului UNESCO. Au urmat discu\u021bii despre valorile sitului Sarmizegetusa Regia, iar participan\u021bii, prin activit\u0103\u021bi interactive, pe grupuri, au fost invita\u021bi s\u0103 le identifice \u0219i s\u0103 explice celorlal\u021bi ce \u00eenseamn\u0103 aceste valori pentru ei. De asemenea au fost invita\u021bi s\u0103 defineasc\u0103 \u00eentr-un cuv\u00e2nt cum ar trebui s\u0103 fie, \u00een viziunea lor, un ghid protector de patrimoniu. Participan\u021bii au fost invita\u021bi s\u0103 caute online informa\u021bii despre sit \u0219i s\u0103 le prezinte celorlal\u021bi informa\u021bia \u0219i de ce au considerat-o relevant\u0103. 

The second day of the seminar also took place between 09.00 and 16.00. The first part\nconsisted in a visit to the Sarmizegetusa Regia site. The participants in the seminar were\nprovided with a guided tour by dr. R\u0103zvan Mateescu, archaeologist at the National Museum of\nTransylvanian History, Cluj-Napoca. The guided visit allowed the participants to better\nunderstand the importance of the site at national and international levels. The second part of the\nday was dedicated to discussions about what does the Sarmizegetusa Regia site, inscribed on\nthe UNESCO World Heritage List, represent for every future heritage protector\/guide. According to the young participants, a heritage protector should provide information in a way that\ncaptures the attention of the guided people, be outgoing and adapt to the audience, be\nempathetic, and combine the new with the old. <\/p>\n

 At the end of the seminar, the balance of the two days of interactive training was taken, and the\nparticipants shared useful information with the other participants or expressed their point of view\non how they could contribute to the protection and promotion of this site, including through short\nvideo materials.
