Launching event of the project

Hunedoara County Council organizes on Friday, December 11, 2020, starting with 11:00, on the ZOOM platform the project launch conference "Capital of Dacia - Living Museum of European Cultural Heritage".This project is financed with the support of EEA Grants 2014 – 2021 within the RO-CULTURE Programme.

The project is implemented by ATU Hunedoara County, as Project Promoter, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture.

  • Project implementation duration is 43 months.
  • Place of implementation: Grădiștea de Munte village, Orăștioara de Sus commune, Hunedoara county (Romania)
  • Project partners are:Mihai Eminescu Trust Foundation (Romania), Møre & Romsdal County Council (Norway)
  • Total value of the project: 13.2903477, 62 lei (2.746.250,15 Euro)
  • The amount of the grant (85% SEE Grant and 15% national buget): 69.0904 (grant) și 30.9096 (eligible own contribution Applicant and Partners).

The general objective of the project aims to improve the quality of life of the population in small and medium-sized cities in Romania, by improving social, educational, cultural-recreational services, by establishing: Book Museum and Old Icon, Space for UNESCP Committee and Scientific Council of Sarmizegetusa Regia Monument, Information Center and tourist promotion, Orăștie Museum of Ethnography and Folk Art - Museum of Dacian Civilization.

Specific objectives:

  • STRENGTHENING ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT through cultural cooperation, cultural entrepreneurship and cultural heritage management;
  • CULTURAL AND ECONOMIC VALORIZATION OF THE UNESCO CULTURAL HISTORICAL MONUMENT by restoring the Sarmizegetusa Regia Fortress, leading to an increase in the number of deviants by 30%, in a period of 43 months;
  • STRENGTHENING THE COLLABORATION BETWEEN ATU Hunedoara County and Project Partners.

Sarmizegetusa Fortress is a historical monument, inscribed in the List of Historical Monuments, on the list of World Heritage - UNESCO. The fortress of Sarmizegetusa Regia was the capital and the most important military, religious and political center of the Dacian State, before and during the wars with the Roman Empire.
