Since June 22, at the Sarmizegetusa Regia site, an archeological research campaign has been carried out within the project “Capital of Dacia - living museum of European cultural heritage”. Excavations are carried out at several points of the fortification in order to provide information and clarification on the ancient construction elements and the state of preservation of the monument.
In the first stage, an area was drawn at the East Gate, where the works from 1980 substantially changed the appearance of the monument. A series of arguments from the excavations of the 19th and 20th centuries indicate a different configuration of the gate than the one currently materialized in the field, so it is necessary to (re) research the area, in order to obtain additional data in order to propose optimal restoration solutions.
A series of sections and surfaces are to be opened on several segments of the wall, as well as in the area of the western and southern gates.
