Yesterday was day 3 of our free event Blacksmith Workshops - 5th series We had anothervery full weekend of blacksmithing demonstrations, alongside blacksmiths from the „Batem fierul la conac” initiative. Batem fierul la conac! Children, parents and grandparents tried this craft in Costești, Orăștioara de Sus commune, for three days. The next event of this type is: Ateliere de fierărie - Seria 6.
The land of Dacia was very rich in resources.
In Decebalus' era, it seems that at Sarmizegetusa and in the surroundings were some of the largest metalworking workshops of European antiquity.
In these workshops, the Dacians made massive anvils, hammers, files, sledgehammers, tongs, chisels, objects for wood processing or used in construction, saws, axes, drills, the weapons to supply for a numerous army: swords, daggers, shields, lances, and spears.
Adornments and garment accessories are also part of the list.
We awaken the young people's interest in this activity by organizing six Dacian forge workshops, to which skilled blacksmiths will be invited.
They will demonstrate the methods of metalworking.
We are also setting up an international blacksmith's workshop – in which European blacksmiths will participate, to promote these ancient Dacian crafts across Europe.
