- At Sarmizegetusa Regia tens of tongs were found and cataloged, taking into account the shape of their jaws, in no less than 10 types.
- Remarkable artefacts are some large tongs of over 1,2 m in length or those decorated with geometrical designs, which represent, themselves an eloquent image of the skills of the Dacian smiths.
- Sledgehammers were used in the first steps of the forging process for transforming blooms into ingots, followed by forming the raw shape of an object. With the use of hammers, most of the details of the objects were forged.
- The workshops` inventory was completed with many other tools used for cutting, measuring, tracing designs and actually making them, also for punching and finishing iron objects.
- In Căprăreața workshop found in the east side of the Sarmizegetusa Regia`s civilian settlement, four-wheel hub fittings were discovered and in one of the deposits brought to light in the workshop on terrace VIII, two large bolts belonging to a wagon`s structure were found. All of them were more or less worn out from long or excessive use.
You can find out more about this topic on Friday, Saturday and Sunday when we will organize 3 blacksmith`s workshops for adults and kids in Costești.
